Resident Magistrate’s Court.— No cases this morning. Attempted Suicide— During last an old man named Wade, who ]aas been residing for some time past with Mr Farrar, attempted to commit filicide hy cutting his throat. He was found at daylight this iporning hy some pf the imputes of the house, in a very weak condition, having succeeded in Inflicting several deep gashes in his throat. Dr Hatchings, who was at npce sept for, vfas promptly in attendance, and sewed up the wounds. The plan, we hear, is progressing fayoiably. fop some tinie jiast he has hpen drink-.

Hebberley, who assisted the keepers when attacked by the runaways, has had the remainder of Ms sentence commuted, and ha< now" joined the party who are in seaich of them.—Since the above was written, a report has reached us that some depiedatiqns have been committed in the vicinity of Havelock, supposed to be the work of the escaped prisoners; but we have not been able to gather anything authentic.
Letter from the Home Commissioners,—The New Ziealand Gazette, September 19, contains a letter from the Home Commissioners, with cnp'osures relating to emigration and railways, in connection with their recent visit to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and North Germany. From the portion relating to emigration, Ave learn that Dr. Feather ston authorised Messrs. Winge and Co., a firm of high standing in Christiania, to select ten young married couples, natives of Sweden, and with not more than two children to each couple. It is not stated what part* of New Zealand they are to be sent to.
