DUNEDIN.
Tuesday, Nov. 23. Thompson's Road Engine, recently imported by Mr John L. Gillies, Tokomajxiro, made a very successful trial last Saturday. Crushings of Conrov's Gully quartz reefs are turning out very favorably. In the Provincial Council to-day, a motion, to form a Conference to arrange a basis of Union with Canterbury, was put and carried. Also, a motion recommending that the provisions*of the Volunteer Act be extended to the Fire Brigades. Mr Macassey addresses the electors on Friday. A new Volunteer company is being formed at Naseby. The Volunteers in the Province of Otago at present number nearly 1,100 strong.
