Volunteer Parage.—The monthly inspection parade of the Napier Rifle "Volunteers is annoimced for to-morrow evening at 6 o'clock. Rechabite Meeting.—The regular fortnightly meeting of the Hope of Napier Tent, 1.0. R, will take place this evening afc half past 7 o'clock. Members of the Hawke's Bay Pro\ i<lent, Land, Building, and Investment Society are requested to take notice that the last month's subscription for the year will beporue due and payable this evening, between the hours of 7 and 8.30, ftt- the Society's, office. Sudden Peath, —We are foformejl that a man named Robinson died suddenly at the Havelock Hotel yesterday. *£he deceased, a year or two since, was throwPr from his horse on the Waipawa race couise, when he sustained conuessipn of the brain, anoj his life was for a time despaired of. He never fully recovered fro.m the effects of the accident,
which, possibly, was the cause of the fatal event.—An inquest was held by Dr f Hitchings at the Havelock Hote) at 4 p.m to-day. Resident Magistrate's Court.— This morning only one case came before the court — Bqwer y. Coventry. Plaintiff, who fa Quarter master of the Hawke's Bay district, claimed £9 6s 2d on behalf of the Government of New Zealand, for stores supplied and delivered. Mr Cuff appeared for the defendant, wljo was absent in Wellington, and pleaded that his client was not liable. The case was gone into at considerable length, and receipts, &c, were handed in by Oapt. Bower in proof of the liability. His Worship considered the claim fully established, and gave judgment for the amount claimed and 14s costs.
