AUCKLAND.
Friday, Oct 21. An influential deputation from the City East waited on Mr Vogel to-day, and requested him to stand for that electoral district in the General Assembly, The Colonial Treasurer consented. Mr Archibald Clark has retired. Requisitions are being got up to Mr Gillies and to Mr Reader Wood to allow themselves to be placed in nomination for the General Assembly, for City West and Parnell respectively. The boiler in use at Tookey's claim, Thame.-*, has burst. General and Lady Chute arrived by the Hero, from Sydney. They intend remaining heie about six weeks, and will then '£o home by the Californian route. The Bishop of Lichfield's reply to the Auckland testimonial has been published. The Chinese giant, Chang, is here. Simmonds, the comedian, died suddenly the other day. "Wheat, 4s 4d to 5s lid; oats, 3s 4xl. The Sydney Morning Herald advocates the main line of Californian steamers running to Fiji, and a branch boat from thence to Auckland. It says that Wellington and Otago would be better served thus,, and urges the Legislature to make this a condition of the subsidy. Mr Collie is ar. Queen's Bay to ascertain the views of the Government.
