Who grumbles at the expense of advertising? The New York Weekly Tribune charges as much as fire dollars a line for certain portions of its paper. A pound a line. Mr Simpson, of Castlemaine, suggests the use of a screw in preference to a valve under the water-line for scuttling ships when on fire. The only objection to his proposition is that screws not in constant use are apt to set fast and to become immovable at the very time when they require to be unscrewed. A correspondent of the Taranaki Herald, signing himself B. Wells, writes:—" Worthy of extensive publication is the fact that the supple-jack of our forest is a sarsaparilla; and a decoction of its roots is a valuable medicine. "Upwards of 130,0001 b of sarsaparilla is annually imported into England."
