DISTRESSING SUICIDE AT THE THAMES.

A meiancholy case of suicide has occurred at the Thames, the particulars of which we condense from the Thames Advertiser. The firm of Cassell and Eorceau, grocers, having had occasion to suspend business, the premises and stock were taken into possession by an agent of the creditors. Certain words used at a meeting of creditors reflecting upon the honesty of the firm, would seem to have prayed on the mind of Mr Eugene Cassell, the senior partner, who confined himself for some days to his room, taking no part in the winding-up of the business. On Thursday, the 22nd, about 2 p.m., his partner, receiving no answer when he called him, broke open bis room door, and found him dying, with a revolver lying near, one chamber of which had just been discharged. By his side was a Erench book, “Bes Characters,” by Jean de Labruyere, which ho had apparently been reading. On the floor was a sodawater bottle which had oontained gin, and a tumbler, with other articles. He died in a very few minutes after being discovered. He had fired into his mouth, and the shot had passed through his brain, fracturing the top of the skull, but not coining through. Deceased was unmarried, and was considered a sober, steady, honest man of business. According to his partner, he had been drinking more than usual in con sequence of the insult to which ho had been subjected by the creditor.
