Auckland Anniversary. This day, Monday, Sept. 19, is the 30th anniversary of the city of Auckland.

Napier Musical Society.—The fourth concert of the season was given by this society on the evening of Thursday, the 15th inst., in the Odd Fellows Hall. The attendance in the front seats was good, but it was very poor on the back benches. The performance began with the overture to " Semiratnide," finely performed. Mendelssohn's beautiful part song, " Farewell to the Forest/' followed. The next; was a solo, Blockley's " Break! Break! Break!" {words by Tennyson) expressively sung by a lady. This was followed by a pianoforte solo, " Home, sweet Home," by a lady who, we believe, has only recently arrived in Napier, The piece, the arrangement of which was exceedingly intricate, was brilliantly performed. It was thorougly appreciated by the audience, and an encore was called for and responded to, another piece being substituted. The vocal quartette " To Thee, great Lord," followed, and the favorite glee "Daughter of Error," which we fancy was not quite so well sung as on the previous occasion. The first part closed with the " Tempting Waltzes," by the full band. In one or two places in this latter piece the music seemed to drag somewhat. The second part opened with the overture to " La Gazza Ladra," beautifully performed. Another of Mendelssohn's* part songs, " The Vale of Rest," was the next, followed by the favorite duetc (violincello and piano) " Vanne al mio bene." The latter was encored, A pleasing fan tasia on the pianoforte, airs from " Traviata,' was the next piece, and was followed by Glover's charming duett, "Tell me, where do lairies dwell ? " by two ladies. The vocal quartette, "Lo, the early beam of morning," was the next, and Br, ITitchings having been called away ?

his part was ably taken by another member of the society, Next came the glee, " See the chariot at hand "; and the " Die Lust" waltzes, by the full band, closed a very agreeable evening's entertainments
