Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magisiri. MONDAY, JULY 25, 1870.

The debate on the financial proposals of the Government was brought to a close on Wednesday last, Mr Vogel in his reply ( indcating important modificaations made in the scheme, in order to make it acceptable to all parties in the House, The whole of the crude railway schedule has been cut out, and the subject/ held over till next session. The sum proposed to be laised on loan has been reduced or four millions, which it is proposed to appropriate as follows :—Miscellaneous purposes, one million; Immigration, one million; Railways, two millions. The two hundred thousand proposed to be expended for land is reduced to half that sum, and the vote for water supply to the gold-fields iuct eased from two to three hundred thousand. One central immigration agency would be established in the United Kingdom, and the several provincial agencies would be subordinate to it. Mr Vogel's motion was as follows : —" That in the opinion of this Committee, it is desirable to proceed to the consideration of the bills to give effect to the financial proposals of the Government." The concession made by the Government to the feeling of the House had greatly disarmed objecting paries, and the resolution was carried with much less opposition than had been anticipated.
