Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. THURSDAY, JUNE 9, 1870.

The Provincial Council sat last night till past ten o'clock, and we are unable to find the necessary space to report ids proceedings in detail. Rather more business was done than on several previous days, and the work of the session is evidently drawing to a close. On the motion of Mr Ormond a Credit Act was introduced, and passed its first reading. A resolution was passed recommending the Superintendent to purchase a small piece of land on the Napier side of the Ngaruroro bridge, known as the Waikahu Block, from the native owners; and a second resolution war passed, recommending that ten acres of the proposed purchase be set apart for a botanical reserve, Mr A'Deane sought to introduce a bill to give effect to a resolution passed some years ago, granting a site for a public hall to the Freemasons, but Ithe motion was negatived after a warm discussion. A Tolice Act Amendment Bill was introduced, and passed its first reading. This bill is formed on the Constabulary Force ordinance of New Minister, hitherto supposed to be in force in this Province—a supposition which turns out to be incorrect. The Licensing Act was further considered and modified in committee. Members appear rather tired of the bill; but an attempt to shelve it in committee did not succee'd. The Compulsory Land Taking Regulations passed their second reading, and were ordered to be committed to day. The Impounding Amendment Bill received several important additions in committee— one of winch gave power to owners of property, subject to certain conditions, to destroy entire animals trespassing in their paddocks—and was reported to the Speaker. The third reading is ordered for to-morrow. The Sheep and Scab Act having been read a third time and passed, the Council adjourned. i
