NEWS FROM THE FRONT.
Engagement between Ropata and Te Kooti's men. 20 Hauhaus Killed, and 300 Prisoners. Hakaraia among the Killed. Te Kooti Escapes. On Tuesday last a telegram was received by J. D. Ormond, Esq,, General Government Agent, from the Native and Defence Minister, to the effect that the Ngatiporou chief Ropata had had an engagement with Te Kooti's party, and had killed 20 of them, one of the killed being the notorious Hakaraia ; and that over 300 prisoners had been captured. Te Kooti managed to effect his escape.
