The s.s. Star of tlie South, Capt. W. Bendall, left Auckland at 3 a.m. on Sunday, March 13. Experienced strong N.E. wind and very thick weather in the Bay of Plenty, and took shelter under Slipper Island at 6 o'clock on Sunday evening; left again at. 6 a.m. on Monday, and arrived at Tauranga at noon the same day ; lauded ten passengers and some cargo, and left again the same evening with strong S.E. wind and thick weather, attended with rain. At 7 a.m. on Tuesday took shelter at Kawakawa; lay there during a heavy southerly gale, and left again at 7 a.m. on Wednesday ; called in at Tologa Bay, and landed despatches for the officer in command at Poverty Bay ; left again at 2 p.m. the same day, and arrived here at 5 a.m. on Thursday last, 17th inst. Capt. Rendall reports having sighted the s.s. Wellington at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, steering towards Poverty Bay. The Star took her departure with 31 head cattle for Tauranga, 50 rams for Tologa Bay, and 400 sheep and 2 horses for Auckland. The Colonial Government ?uu-boat Sturt, Captain Fairchild, steamed for Wairoa, Poverty Bay, &c, on Thursday last, —S. Locke, Esq., R.M., proceeding by her. The schooner Kauri sailed for Wellington yesterday with 70 bales wool and 20 bales flax.
