The racehorses Numa and Dainty Ariel arrived from Auckland by the m.s. Keera on Friday last. The Weather has been unsettled since our last issue, and a slight quantity of rain has tall en. Mr Commissioner Branigan arrived in Napier yesterday by the s s. Wellington from Auckland. Recruits to the Napier Rifle Volunteers will meet for drill at 7 a.m. on Wednesday next, on the usual parade ground. Major Heapiiy, V. 0.. the Commissioner of Native Reserves, was a passenger bv the ss. Lord Ashlev on Thursday last. Three Hundred Natives, from different parts of the East Coast, were landed at Poverty Bay on Thursday last from the p.s Sturt. A Draw op Shares, in connection with the Napier Land and Building Society, No. 2, will take place this evening at 8 o'clock. Our Auckland Files extend to the 24th inst. Our correspondent's letter, and extracts from the papers to hand will be found elsewhere. Captain Humfrey, of the Napier Militia, has been appointed. Adjutant of the Militia and Volunteers in the Hutt and Taita portion of the Wellington Militia District. The Government Moorings are about to be shifted —that being one of the objects of the Sturt's present visit to this port. Operations were to commence at daybreak this morning. Dr Scott met with rather a severe accident on Friday last. Going out of the back door of Mr Topping's house, on the Spit, he slipped and fell down, breaking his leg in the fall. He was at once conveyed to the Provincial Hospital. We hear he is progressing favorably.
