The next meeting-of the Napier Debating Club will take place to morrow evening, at 8 o'clock, when the subject of " Compulsory Education" will be discussed. The latest news regarding Te Kooti, so far as we have heard, is that we was making for the CJriwera country, with M'Donnell, &c, in "full pursuit.'* We should think that the lrost enthusiastic partisans of the present Government will now see and admit that the abandonment of the operations against him seven months ago was, to say the least of ! it, a most inj -1 dicious step. We trust that there is no truth in the report that the Government, placing implicit faith in Te Kooti's professions to Mr Firth dining the recent interview, viz., that he now wished to live in peace if allowed to do so, are about to withdraw our forces from the held, and give up the pursuit of the murderous scoundrel" We must say, however, that circumstances seem tending strongly in that direction. We have to acknowledge the courtesy of the Hon. Colonial Secretary in forwarding us the Appendix to the Journals of the House of Representatives, and the Journals and Appendix of the Legislative Council for 1860. A considerable improvement has made in th? gettingup of the former of these works, by binding it m two volumes instead of one as heretofore. Each volume is quite as heavy and bulky as can be easily managed, and we believe the change will be appreciated. The coutcnts of these volumes generally consist of papers presented to both houses of Assembly during the past session, some of which have previously reached us in a separate form, but which here are found arranged under their proper heads in a •systematic manner, together with I others which we had not before seen. lAs works of reference these volumes are of considerable value.
