The Taranaki Herald says : "Is there no spirited Justice of the Peace in the Province of Auckland who will do the Colony the service of pre- . venting Mr Firth doing mischief, possibly bo himself, certainly to the Colony? The "Disturbed Districtsj Act" of last session gives the most; unlimited power to Justices to deal with such case> ; and if a like occurrence had taken place in tiiis Province, we think the man would have been found to do that simple act of justice to the public which the case requires, and which the Government have in this instance neglected." The editor of the Taranaki Herald —a Government paper, by the way • •-; was evidently unaware, when writing the above, of Mr Firth's arrest by Lieut. Beere, and his subsequent discharge from custody, together with Lieut. Beere's suspension from office in consequence.
