AUCKLAND LIYE STOCK MARKET. [.Mil ALFRED BUCKL/VKD.] Auckland, Jan. 22,1870. At the Haymarkct on Saturday last there was a large attendance, and the bidding was consequently better for horse stock than for several weeks. In draught stock there was an improvement in values, although those offered were all sold. For carriage and light harness horses there was a good enquiry. A pair of grey geldings brought £52; the carriage, harness, and horses of Mr Nathan, £9O; oaten hay, from 2s 9d to 5s 6d the cwt. At the llemuera yards on Thursday stock of all descriptions offered plentifully. Dairy cows sold more freely than of late; best animals brought from £l2 to £l4' 15s. Young cattle, calves to 18 months old, were better worth £5 per head. Steers, from 18 months to 2 years, were in better enquiry. They brought from £6 17s 6d to £8 15s. Dry cows brought from £4 10s to £8 5s each. Eat cattle were in less numbers than last week, but above average supply ; 117 sold to the butchers, prices were 2s 6d on small cat':le, and 5s per lOOlbs. on large cattle, lower than last week. Sheep were penned in excess of requirements, and prices, both of fat and shore, were lower, from 2s to 4-s per head, and several hundred were withdrawn from the sale. Store merinos dull of sale at 5s each. Lambs shared in the decline of prices, from Is to 2s per head. Pigs were plentiful, but of good quality, and all offered sold freely at late prices. . [cabby, gilles, and hunter.] The horse market has been brisk during the. last week. Above an average number were brought forward on Saturday, and disposed of, generally speaking, at satisfactory prices. Good stock are in request, but supply short. We quote hacks from £8 15s to £23; di aught horses, from £lB to £25 each. Operations in short cattle have been restricted, owing to graziers being unwilling to purchase largely until there is a'more decided break in the present dry weather. There were some heavy showers on Tuesday last, and consequently vendors anticipated an advance, and were unwilling to sell at current rates, consequently transactions at vur Tuesday's sales were not so numerous as they would otherwise have been. A large number of fat beasts were penned, which sold at late rates, the preference being given to small carcases. Sheep were in good supply, but the quality not lying equal to requirements, those of good quality) sold readily, while inferior were dull of sale. The
