AUCKLAND LIVE STOCK MARKET, [MR ALFRED BUCKLA.ND.] January 8,1870. Consequent upon the races there was no sale at the Haymarket on Saturday, and a very limited sale at the Triangle on Tuesday. At Papakura on Wednesday, there was a large number of store cattle—l4o head sold. Prices obtained were rather lower than have lately ruled. Good lambs brought 10s to 13s 3d each. At the Remuera Yards, on Thursday, store cattle were not so plentiful as usual; dairy cows of good quality brought from £l2 to £ls each. Pat cattle were in usual supply, and of better ■• than usual quality. There was a steady demand throughout the sale at an advance of 3s to 5s the lOOfts over last week's market. The store merino wethers, ex Star of the South, averaged 8s 8d each. Pat sheep were short of requirement and higher in price about 2s each. Small sized fat pigs were plentiful, but sold at high rates. [CAREY, GILLES, AND HUNTER.] The horse market has been unusually brisk. Our weekly sale at the Durham Yards was held on Thursday the 30th ult., on account of the holidays, when an unusually large number of horses were brought forward, and although there was no improvement in prices, a larger number was disposed than lias been for a length of time. We sold hacks from £7 to £10; light draught horses, from £23 10s to £2B ; unbroken draught colts, from £l9 to £l9 10s each. The sale at the Junction Yards, on Tuesday, was considerably diminished by being held on a race morning, but on account of the races being postponed, we had no alternative, unless holding it on the following day, in which case there would have been markets on two consecutive days. Store stock were penned in very limited numbers; and dairy cows in short, supply, and of inferior i quality. Pat stock were in adequate supply, and averaged about last week's prices. Some very prime, ex Rifleman, from Chatham Islands, brought extreme rates, realising from £l2 15s to to £22 each; 25 head, ex John Penn, from Wauganui, averaged £l2 17s 3d each. We sold dairy cows from £9 to £l3 ; two year old steers, from £6 17s 6d to £7 7s 6d; three year old steers, £7 17s 6d to £8 10s ; beef, from 35s to 40s per lOOfts. Sheep and pigs were in short supply, and advanced in price. Half-breds sold from 14s 6d to 19s 3d; merino wethers, from 14s to 15s 6d ; lambs, from 9s 6d to 13s 9d each. At Papakura, on Wednesday, there was a large muster of cattle and sheep, chiefly young stock. Dairy cows were scarce, and those ofFered were inferior. As usual at this sale, there was a large attendance of buyers, and for the young stock the competition was good, but aged cattle were difficult to quit; weaned calves sold from £2 6s to £3 2s; yearlings, from £4 to £4 15s; two-year-old steers, from £6 10s £6 17s 6d ; one and a-half year old steers, £5 to £5 17s 6d each. WOOL AND PLAX SALE AT AUCKLAND. Mr. Alfred Buckland held a sale of wool and flax.at the Haymarket, Auckland, on the 7th inst., which was not so fully attended as on previous ocsions. Prices for best descriptions of wool were weil sustained, and one bale brought a higher price than any at either of the previous sales, viz., Is 4d per lb. Paulty and dirty wools were a good deal lower. Por the flax offered—about 14 tons — there was good competition, at an advance of 3s the cwt. Best qualities brought 30s and 30s 6d the ewt.
