CHRISTMAS TIME. [Composed, with appropriate music, for W. H. Williams' Australian Annual, 1888-9.] O welcome, merry Christmas time ! O welcome to our southern clime! 0 come as in the days of yore, Ard bless our longing hearts once more ! Hark! how the bells ring loud and clear, To welcome Christinas ever dear ! Come not to us with icy crown, Nor yet with winter's angry frown, Nor visit us with frost and snow; But come with golden sunshine glow, With clear blue skies, and waving corn, While Plenty fills her golden horn. To toil and care we bid farewell, By river's brink, by shady dell; While music floats upon the breeze, And birds sing carols in the tiees. Ring out, ye bells, a merry peal, Proclaim the happiness we feel. Nor quite forget that happy time, King out, ye bells, your sweetest chime, When on the first dear Christmas morn The Saviour of the world was born: When Bethlehem's star shone bright and fair, And angel songs rang through the air.
