Napier Debating Club.— The next meeting of thin society will l'( held on Thursday evening next, at C o'clock. The subject on this occasion, wo observe, will be a political one, viz., "Would New Zealand be benefited by separation from the mother country ?" The Provincial Government Telegraph Stations in the Province of; Otago were, on the Ist December, transferred to the General Government of New Zealand, and the universal tariff hitherto in force will be applicable to them. Poverty Bay.—Capt. M'Lennan of the schooner Muriwai, which arrived from Poverty andTologa Bays yesterday, reports all quiet along the coast, both Europeans and natives being busily engaged in industrial pursuits. A. sitting of the Native Lands Court is expected to take place at Turanganui, and the settlers are looking forward to an early visit from the hon. the Native Minister.
Mr. St. Johx Bbannig/ln was a passenger by the s.s. liangatira from Wellington on Friday last, and left Napier for Taupo on Saturday.
