Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. MONDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 1869.

Ball.—A Tradesmen's Anniversary Ball takes place to-morrow evening. A Tricycle, we learn, has been manufactured by Mr M'Leod, coachbuilder, of this town. Tenders, receivable up to this day, are invited by Mr A Peters for the erection of a six-stalled stable. Mr Weston, the member repreresenting Waimarama in the Provincial Council, has resigned his seat. The Plon. Mr. Gisbqrne and Col, Gorton were passengers by the s.s, Wellington on Thursday last, en route for A-ickland. Cobb & Co.—This morning a daily line of coaches will commence running between Napier and Waipawa, lea\ ing both places at 8 o'clock e\ery morning. It will be seen by advertisement that Mr B. Warnes has for sale a quantity of bricks and firewood, just to hand per Why Not, ketch, from Wellington. Gold Export.—The total amount of gold exported from New Zealand from the l.vfc April, 1857, to the 30th September, 1869, was 4,832,339 ozs., of the value of £18,769,519. The English Mail.—According to the time table of New Zealand steam mail services for the month of November, the next European Mail is due at Hokitika on Wednesday next, 3rd November, and at Wellington on the sth. As the word " Napier" is carefully excluded from the aforesaid document —not for the first time either—we cannot form the remotest idea when the Hawke's Bay portion will reach its destination.

Napier Debating Club.— At 8 p.m. on Thursday last, 28th October, a meeting of persons desiring to institute this society was held in a room connected with the Odd Fellows' Hall. Mr Marshall was voted to the choir, and the inagural address, was delivered by Mr JVlorice. The lecturer, in an able and interesting speech, explained the objects of the society, and showed the advantage, resulting from its institution in a community so destitute of the ordinary public means of intellectual recreation as Napier. Ar the conclusion of the address the names of those willing to join the society were taken, and the next meeting was fixed for the 11th November. The meeting terminated with the usual vote of thanks to the chairman.

The weather was very unpropitions, J strong north-west breeze prevailing throughout the day; and the shoow ing, consequently, was anything but good, except in one or two cases, rh© I highest score made being 35. The Weather on Thursday anil! Friday was intensely hot, but tbe-j afternoon of the latter day wa-i showery. Saturday morning was overcasf; with showers in the evening. Yesterday was wet ami disagreeable; and heavy rain fell during the night. This morning, as we go t<x press, is overcast and showery—offering but a discouraging prospect to holiday-seekers. The Front.—We believe that} despatches were received from Colj M'Donnell on the afternoon otj Saturday; and though we have! no official information as to tlieirl tenor, we may say that it is rumored' that they were to the effect thatsoQj Waikato natives had joined lU'Don-j nell in pursuit of Kooti, whom thej native prisoners reported as havingl only some six followers left. Nti fighting had taken place, but it Lsj not likely that Kooti could hold long against such odds hs are now itf the field against him. Provisions were obtained with great difficulty j our men having to go fourteen miles! for potatoes, and carry them to tha camp in bags. The above are the current rumors, and we give thens for what they are worth. We regreti to hear that a lad of this town, abouß fourteen years of age, named Leonard Goldfinch, who accompanied Henara to the front, was killed one day last week bv a fall from his horse.
