THE RAIMA NAW A RANGE.

Mr. H. S. Tiffen, who has been on a visit to the Kaimanawa Range, returned to Napier on Saturday evening. Ha reports that there' are six prospecting parties in the district. He has seen specimens of likelylooking quartz obtained on theground, but gold is not visible. He has also brought specimens of slate with mundic. Capt. M'Donnell had been unable to find the reef from which his first specimens were taken, as a great landslip which occurred in the meantime has buried it, and he has not yet traced it in any other part. He is prospecting at the northern end of the range, and the Hawke's Bay party at the southern end (which is most conveniently accessible from Napier), with every prospect of success. The cold weather and the snow had much impeded operations, but on Wednesday evening, when Mr TifFen left, the prospectors were all sanguine of success. A Wanganui company are engaged in cutting a road through dense forest for the transit of stock; but those who come from Wanganui describe the journey as being very tedious and difficult, and all agree that if gold is found it must come to Napier, The distance from Napier is about 70 miles, and a good dray-road could be made with very little expense.
