The Coming Election. —Tt will be seen by advertisement that James Grindell, Esq., is a candidate for the scat in the Provincial Council vacated by S. Locke, Esq. The nomina tion takes place to-morrow, and the polling (if necessary) on Wednesday.
The Front. —A report was: in circulation yesterday to the effect that another engagement had taken place at the front between our forces and those of Te Kooti, resulting in heavy loss on our side. This information is, we are told, derived from native sources ; and must, therefore, be accepted with caution. However, there may be a modicum of truth in the story, as yesterday, a partv of friendly natives were, as we have been informed, to start for ibej front. These consist of about 80 Waiohiki natives, and about 20 of Hapuku's men. I
