Auckland Live Stock Market. fEBOM OITB QWN CORRESPONDENT ] June 30,1869. There has been a considerable improvement in. the market during the past week. The supply of cattle is limited, and the deniind is on the increase. Eat cattle are now up to 42s to 43s per 100' lbs., and are still rising; while fat sheep (good half-brads) are worth B£d per lb. A very inferior lot'of sheep from Poverty Bay were sold on Friday, by Messrs. Carey and Gilies, and brought from J7s 10d to 18s Gd. Messrs. Hunter and Co.'s usual weekly sale was held on Monday, and was well attended. The following prices were obtained :—3-year old steers, from £8 2s 6d to £8 17s 6d ; dairy cows, £lllss to £l3 17s 6d; 2-year old heifers, £6 to £9 ; half-bred fat wethers, 14s 6d to 17s; ewes and hoggets, 13s 9d ■;■ beef, 40s to 42s 6d per 100 lbs. The following is from Carey and Gilies' report for the week ending June 26 :— Ci The markets were barely supplied with beef of good quality, and a further advance upon last week's quotations was consequently obtained, being as high as 42s per 100 lbs. for primest lots, with a prospect of higher prices ; second quality realised 37s 6d *P 40s. Eat sheep were in fair supply and and of good quality; the bidding throughout was very spirited with improved values. Dairy cows of good quality met with a ready sale, and continue to be in demand. Store cattle were in good supply, and sold at late quotations. Pigs were in abundance and were well sold. At the Junction Yards, on Wednesday, we obtained the following I#r i cos i—Eat cattle, ex Star of the South, from Napier, sold at 37s 6d to, 40s per 100 lbs., prime lots realising 42s per 100 lbs. Fat sheep.—Napier half-breds, 12s 9d to 18s 3d ; merinos (good quality), 13s to 15s 6d ; average lots, 10s pd to 12s. Eat pigs.—Dairy-fed fetched from £3 18s to £4 12s 6d. A shipment from the East Coast, medium quality, 36s to, 60s each." The same firm have a sale on to-day, but the Raugatira leaves too soon to enable me tp send a report of the same. July 1, 1869.
The Rangatira being detained until to-day, enables me to forward Messrs Carey & Grilles' report of yesterday's sale. It is as follow? :—The prices obtained for beef at yesterday's market confirm the rise reported by us on the 26th ult. Napier cattle were penned in fair numbers, and met with ready sale at from 38s to 42s Gd per 100 lbs. Provincial of good quality, were quitted at the same rates. There was a full supply of sheep, which brought remunerative figures. The shipment ex llangatira, from Napier, consisting of 376 head, were all disposed of at 12s 6(1 to 15s 6d each. Provincial-fatted sheep, 14s to 10s 6d. Ex Star of the South—Merinos, lis 6d to 14s.
