Importation of Grain, &c. ---The following have been the importations of grain, & , at the port of Napier, (hiring the month ending 31st May : —Oats, 1,374 bags, wheat, 300 bags; oatmeal, 65 bags; bran, 20 bags; barlev, 350 bigs; potatoes, 90 bags ; flour, 1,445 bags.

A False Report —lt having been currently reported in Hawke's Bay that Colonel Whitmore had resigned his com mission as commander of the Colonial Forces, we are enabled to give such report an unqualified denial. Colonel Whitmore is at present suffering from ill-health, but has not ceased to perform his duties, and has no intention of gning them up. The Artesian Well.—Notwithstanding an unfortunate bend which has taken place in the tube, and which, though slight, has proved sufficient to check somewhat the process of sinking, good progress continues to be made, and appearances are promising. Yesterday afternoon, nearly 180 feet ha I been driven, and some rotten wood had been encountered. We trust that we shall be able to announce water very shortly.
