Star of the South. Tub favorite s.s. Star of the South, Capt. Bendall, left Auckland on Tacsday last at 11 p.m. The East Cape was rounded at 2 a.m. on Thursday, whan a strong souther was experienced, with heavy heal sea, which compelled her to seek shelter in Tologa Bay, where arrived on Thursday evening. Left again on Friday morning; had strong head winds and heavy sea, and arrived in the Iron Pot at 1 o'clock on Saturday morning. The Star leaves again for Auckland at 4> o'clock to-morrow afternoon. Miscellaneous. Strong winds from N.E. and E.N.E., accompanied hy heavy rain, have prevailed since Friday last. The sea in the Bay has, of course, been unusually high. The s.s. Lord Ashley, Capt. Worsp, left Wellington at 12.30 p.m. on Friday last, and arrived in the roadstead at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Owing to the heavy sea running, nothing beyond the mails ;ind one passenger were landed —having been brought ashore in the St. Kilda's life-boat. The Ashley steamed northwards at 3.30 p.m. She is due here again on Sunday next, and will meet with quick despatch for Wellington. The s.s. St. Kilda steamed for the Bav of Plenty yesterday afternoon, and may be expected to return to Napier in five or six days. The s.s. Wellington, from Auckland, may be expected on or about Thursday next, and will be despatched for Wellington shortly after arrival. Heavy floods and shipwrecks, with loss of life, are reported from New South Wales. The extent of damage done was not known at latest dates. The brig Burnett foundered with all hands ; the schooners Nancy, Oriti, and others have been wrecked. The schooner Jessie —which vessel, it will be remembered, visited this port in December last —has also been lost. Captain Pugh, F. Long (the mate), and Thomas M'Lellan (the cook), were the only pcrsors saved from this wreck. The men lost are Charles Watt, Samuel Brown, and Charles Oliver.
