Wellington, May 1, 9.15 p.m. The Duke is expected from the South to-morrow, and leaves for Auckland on Monday. A native meeting is being held at Rangitikei to consider the Manawatu purchase, the erection of the telegraph to Wanganui across Maori land, &c. Nothing definite has been determined; but the affair is unsatisfactory. A cricket match took place to-day v. Wellington. Wellington conquered in one innings, with 20 runs to spare.
[feom oue own co-respondent.] May 2, 10.25 a.m. H.M.S. Blanche arrived this morning from Dunedin with H.E.H. the Duke of Edinburgh. He leaves for Auckland by the Galatea this evening-
A telegram received by the Government yesterday, dated 4 p.m., ga y S : _.«A meeting of natives at Bangitikei went off satisfactorily. The Hauhau prophets declared for four years' peace in the district."
