The Tactics of the Opposition. —The following extract from a private letter from a gentleman in Auckland, who is well informed on political subjects, was handed to us for publication last week, but was shut out from our Monday's issue : —" The opposition policy is separa tion. Yogel was recently here on a political mission ; and their Honors M ; Lean, Featherston, and Williamson are agreed on separation to this extent— theSonth to give£l,ooo,ooo to the North, and afterwards to be excused all financial obligations to help it; the Provinces to undertake all wars, all defence of the Colony, and all native affairs. It means for Taranaki, extinction : ITawke's Bay to get Poverty Bay ; Wellington to have Taranaki. It is a pretty and seductive scheme ; but if allowed is too wicked a policy not to ruin the Colony, for it means—spend the million, and then . Will the South swallow that pill 1 "
