Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. MONDAY, APRIL 19, 1869. THE MOHAKA MURDERS.
Accounts received from Mohaka since our last issue fully confirm the worst fears entertained regarding the fate of Mr Lavin and his family, and the other Europeans who were missing, as well as between 30 and 40 friendly natives. Up to the last we had hopes that the missing persons were alive and would be found, but the discovery of their bodies at length proves that the savages have added these murders to the of their previous atrocities. It is to be hoped that the day of letribution for such diabolical deeds is at hand.
