Colonel TThitmore's Plans.— We believe that Colonel Whitmore intends in future to adopt the system of head money —to offer £lO per head and rations to native allies not enlisted in the Armed Constabulary, and to the Constabulary a bonus of £5 per head for all rebels killed except in siege or general action. He also intends to collect the Armed Constabulary all together at Taupo, and along the line of supply. He recommends an immediate extension of telegraph to Taupo, Tauranga, Wanganui, and Taranaki. He intends also to seize the women of hostile tribes, and expatriate them to friendly tribes.
Saved prom Drowning.—On Saturday morning about 11 two lads, sons of Mr Marr, shoemaker, were bathing in the sea near the White-road, one of them got beyond his depth, and in great danger; and the other ran out of the water calling for assistance. The only person near was Mr Rabone, joiner, who was at work on the roof of Mr Palmer's new stables. He at once hastened to the assistance of the boy, and brought him ashore in a state of insensibility. He was carried to Mr Focett's house, where, by timely and vigorous efforts, consciousness was at length restored,
