Messrs. Carey & Gilles's Live Stock Report for the week ending 26th March : "We have to report that the markets for both beef ana mutton have been well supplied during the week and late quotations fully upheld. Provincial beef was readily disposed of at 37/0; prime lots 4'/ '{o- lOOlh. Fat sheep were penned in abundance, and found buyers at fair prices. The demand for milch cows still continues, and those offered soil at good rates. Store sheep, merinos, were quilted with difficulty, at extremely low rates, graziers dreading to purchase largely, anti cipating heavy importations, which, however, are not likely to come forward while the present very low figures are only obtainable. >tore cattle in fresh condition ;.re in demand, maintaining late values. i at Cattle, at the Junction Yards, on Wednesday, realised 37/J <s■ lOoib ; prime quality up to 40/ Fat sheep, ex Phoebe, from Taranaki. fetched from 1-J/j to 21/6 each; provincial wethers, l<i/J to l/j. .-tore sheep, ex Star of the South, from Napier, merinos, brought 6/ to T/3.
