Thk brig Maggie, Captain Arnold, left Napier on the evening ot the 2nd Feb., with light southerly wind, which lasted as far as Poverty Bay, on the second day out, when the vessel was becalmed for Iwo days. A strong northerly wind was then pxporitmced as far tiie North Cape, -which was rounded o.i the 14th t'eb. From thence till arrival at Newcastle on the evening of the 23rd. very favoroble winds were experienced, chiefly from the eastward, with very unsettled weather, and aepompanicd with thunder and lightning. Having taken in a full cargo, left Newcastle at 0 a.m. on the Sth March, with light N.E. wjnd, which lusted till the Bth, when the wind veered to 5.3. R., blowing hard, with high sea running. From the 11th to the 20th March, bad fresh winds from E.S.E. to I JS.N'.E., with high and«confiised sea running. On' the 21st the wind backed to the south, and con-j tinned from that quarter till the 20th, when the ]and was made off Cape Runaway. Rounded the! East Cape on the evening of that clay, and was off! (fable Capa at noon the 27th ult.. when tho wind j yeer.ed to the S.E., blowing hard, with very heavy j pparunning. Maip beat to windward, and made J'orilaiid-- Island on Sunday evening last, when the Vessel got becalmed until Tuesday morning. Light bathing winds were then experienced up the Bay, the vessel dropping anchor in the roadstead at 0 O'clock last evening. The s.s Star of sbe South ieft Auckland ,ftt 4.30 a.m. on Sunday last, 28th ult. Experienced flue weather throughout the passage, and arrived in tho Iron Pot al 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday last. Called in at Tologa Bay on the way down, and landed two passengers. The Star stemmed for Auckland last evening with a cargo or sheep. The s.s. Wellington, with tho English Mail on board, arrived in port at 11 o'clock yesterday morning. Sbo left Port Chalmers at 4 p.m. on the 25th ult.. and arrived at !vttelton at 12.20 p.m. on the 2fitn; left again at 7 p.m. cm the 27th, and arrived at Wellington at 7.15 p.m. on tho 28th; left | again at 2 p.m. on the B"th. and amved hereast above. From Port Chalmers to Lyttelton cxperienoed fresh S.VV. winds and heavy sea. Fro n| thence to rort lisrht N.W. wiuds, Que weather, and smooth water. The Wellington steamed northwards at 6 o'clock last evening. The s.s. Auuriri is due here from Auckland this day. She will have quick despatch for Wellington j |and Southern Ports. ! Airedale, Captain Kennedy, met with a nasty accident dining a heavy S.W. gale on the Coast, on the night of the 22nd Alach. It appears that during her run across from Nelson to Taranaki the iron nand or the foremast head gave way, and the yard, rigging, and sails fell over the steamer's side. Other Slight damages occuired, but the Airedale was well managed, and taken safely to her destination (Mauukau.) The work !of repairing is in the hands of Mr George Heddoes, of the North buore, whose tender was accepted, at a cost of it SGO. Tho R,M. s.s. Ruahine—the last of the fine fleet of steamers hitherto engaged in the mail service between Sydney, Wellington, and Panama—left Wellington for Southampton via the Straits of .vlagellan and Rio do Janeiro on Tuesday last.
