DISTRICT PRIZE FIRING.
The firing for the General Government Prizes in this Piovince commenced at 10 o'clock on t!;e morning of Tuesday last, 23rd March, at Greenmeadows,—the corps represented on the occasion being the Na pier Bifie Volunteers, Hawke's Bay Yeomanry Cavalry, Armed Constabulary, and Nos. 1,2, 3,4, 8, and 11 Companies of Napier Militia. The weather, we regret to say, was exceedingly unfavorable, a strong westerly gale prevailing throughout the greater part of the day ; whilsS the clouds of dust was such as to render good -hooting almost out of the question. The firing was under the personal supervision of Lieut.-Colonel Lambert and Captain and Adjutant Withers,—Knsign Webb, N.E.V., being in charge at the butts. The highest score was 23, made by Captain A. Kennedy, No. 2 Company Napier Militia. In all there were 40 competitors. Below we give the scores made.
On Saturday next, at 10 a.m., Nos. 5, 6,7, and 10 Companies of Napier Militia will fire at Waipukurau, when the weather, it is to be hoped, will prove rather more favorable than was tho case on Tuesday.
