The race is described as having been one of the prettiest and 1 closest that has ever taken place in Auckland and resulted in tha Sovereign of the Peas winning by about 25 minutes. The cutter Nautilus accompanied the vessels down the harbor to see fair play. The schooner Coquette was also in company with the cutters, but. was distanced by all three of them. The winning vessel (says the .New Zealand Herald) was built by George Sharp of liahurangi, and launched on the 10th May, 1866. She is owned by Mr Manuel Christian, and was sailed by Mr Matthew Hooper. She won the last year's prize for the race for trading vessels ; and the second prize in this year's regatta. This occasion has proved her crowning triumph, and she has proved herself the fastest vessel of her kind out of Auckland.
