Colonel Whitmore, on arrival at Wanganui, was well received by the better class of the people, who are anxious to have the West Coast difficulty settled.
2.7 p.m. Steamer just in from Wanganui; no particular news. 'Colonel Lyon's party of cavalryvisited Waihi, but saw no natives. On their return they were fired at from Nukumaru, and one horse was killed.
Titokowaru has evidently the greater portion of his men there.
It will take two or three days yet for Colonel Whitmore to complete his preparations. H.M.S. Blanche is at Wanganui, and report says she has offered a rocket party to assist Colonel Whitmore.
