Some friendly natives had expressed their intention of going up and interring them. The Wairoa natives who lately joined tne rebels had had an interview with some friendlies ; they said that, at the engagement at liuaki Tore, if our forces had kept up the attack much longer, the enemy would have surrendered, as they were out of provisions and ammunition.
