MOKIHINUI. Late accounts are encouraging. There in? about 1000 mfu un tie.- lead. One warty on the North Terrace got 19 ounces is the result of three hours washing out. The country resembh s Fox’s. A heave oarcel of good scaly gold was lately brought down the river, the owners refusing to divulge the locality where it was found. The Westport Star’s correspondent of 10th Uct., says:
“The terraces ‘hero are rapidly extending and many of the holes are now being bottomed with very good resu’ts. A parcel of rough gold, coars ■ and nuggMtr in appearance, was brought down the other day, which I had an opportunity of looking at. Large parlies arc starting up the river nrovided with a month or two’s tucker to give the country a fair trial, and l-oai the various reports coming dawn same good is anticipated in that direction. On the bars of the river at low tide small quantities of gold have been found, which is an index of more being somewhere higher un There are four or five large boats built! here for the conveyance of goods and pas ,' sengers up the river. Prices of sectionsj are getting h'gher daily; few can behad| now under £bj to £2O, and £IOO is asked: for one of the corner sections. There are' sullieient business men here for the present! population, I should think. A few large and substantial stores are being erected,! as well us some very extensive hotel- ; two billiard tables are already up and in tali play, and 1 should judge tnat they are doing a g'od business. 0;t the beach' between here and the I!niter there are several parties at work, about seven miles from the Baler, and a good number of diggers are working, prosm-cling, surfacing and shallow sinking ; but what results they are obtaining I have not nt. Business poop!.* seem very wed satisfied so and are Weil pleased with the up* ce of things as they are now shaping ”

THE DULLER. The Westport, Times, of the 10th October,! says“ Our news in this issue isl meagre in the extreme, and we have verrj little new t > tell. A report was circulate.,! I -hat a i>n«e;»rtiiig elatm it id been applied! tor within te . miles of the Bailor, but it| had no foundation whatever. At Waite’sj I’akahis work is steadily proceeding, aud some of the returns of last: weeks working have been very good indeed. From up the liver, where it was exp cted a rush « ould take place, nothing furl her lias been made known. The accounts from M italud nui are good generally ,and gold lias been brought down in moderate quantities. One storekeeper bought fifty-two ounces m a few hours, and brought it down on Tuesday bast, aud, as we are informed, 'more was offering. There is nothing fresh IV. mi Wairnangaroa, but the quartz prospee's c ■intitule to be as good us ever.” The Westport Star, reviewing the week, says:—“During the week, we believe, a parcel of BJO oz. of gold has been received j by one of the banks in the town from the north workings. From Waite’s Pakihi nothing of an exciting nature has readied us during the past week. Washing is ueing generally proceeded with throughout the flat, aud it is confidently expected that large quantities of gold will find its wa\ into Westport within a week or ten days. Nothing definite lias yet been reported e ncerhing the rush which set in early last | week to the spot h ing between Addison’s Flat and Charleston, but we believe that there are upwards of SO,) men on the spot ; prospects obtained are said to be satisfactory.”
