ARRIVAL OF THE LORD ASHLEY. Tee Panama Company’s steamship Lord Ashley, Captain Worsp, left Bluff Harbor at 4 p.m. on the 24th September, and arrived at Port Chalmers at B*3o a.m. on the 25th; left again at 4 p.m. on the 26th, and arrived at Lyttelton at P3O p.m. on the 27th; left Lyttelton at 5 p.m., and arrived at Wellington at 3-30 p.m. on the 28th. Lea for Napier at 10 - 15 a.m. on the 26th, and arrived in port at 8 a.m. on Monday, 30th ult. We have to thank Mr Purser Pennell for the receipt of a few Middle Island papers, hut we may remark that not a single Wellington paper reached our hands. The Lord Ashley steamed for Auckland at noon on Monday last, and may be expected to return on her southward trip on or about Monday, 14th October. ARRIVAL OF THE WELLINGTON. The New Zealand Steam Navigation Company’s s.s. Welltngton, Captain F. Holmes, left Napier at noon on the 25th Sept.; arrived at Tauranga at 5p m. on the 26th, and left at 7 p.m., arriving at Auckland at 11 a.m. on the 27th. From Tanranga encountered a strong N.E. gale, with heavy sea. The Wellington left Auckland again on the 29th at S-45 p.m., arriving at Tauranga at 7*30 a.m on the SOth ult,; left at 9*30 a.m. the same day, and arrived In port at I p.m, on Tuesday, Ist October,— having encountered light head winds the whole way down. We have to thank the purser, Mr sly, for the receipt of our usual files from Auckland. ARRIVAL OF THE STAR OF THE SOUTHThe s.s. Star of the South, Capt. Bendall, arrived at Auckland on the night of Friday, 271 h ult., 51 hours from Napier. After coaling s'nd loading left for Napier at 9 p.m. on Monday, 3ulh Sept. Had strong N.W winds with fine weather as far as the East Cape, which was rounded at 10 p.m. on Tuesday. At noon on Wednesday passed For: land Island. s.Tid arrived in the roadstead at 10 o'clock last night, after a fair run of 49 hours. From the East Cape to port experienced strong westerly winds. The cutter St. Kilda, Burr, master, left Auckland on the 29th ult. for Napier, via Matakana, to ship a cargo of firewood at the latter place. The s.s. Midge, Captain Stuart, arrived at Auckland on the 30th ult., from the Thames, with 208 ounces of gold and 30 passengers. The s.s. Storm Bird, Captain Doyle steamed for Wellington ou Monday night last. The B.s. St, jsiida, from Wellington, may hs expected here in a day or two. Prom this port she will proceed to the Chatham Islands. The schooner Annie, Hamilton, master, sailed for Mohaka on Tuesday last, with general cargo. She may he expected to return to port to-day, when she will commence loading for Porangahau The schooner Saucy Lass, Capt. McKenzie, arrived at Auckland on the 25th ult, having left Nathe East Coast, Rhn was again on the berth for this port. The clipper ship Siam, Captain Ashby, from London. arrived at Auckland on the 27th ult., after a good voyage of 105 days. She was the bearer of 76 passengers, and about 1050 tons general cargo. The New Zealand Herald, Sept. 23, says -.—During yesterday we had a strong gale from N.E., accompanied with heavy rain, hut no damage was occasioned to the shipping in port. The s.s. Otago sailed for Melbourne from Otago on the 21st ult.

The Perth New Shipbuilding Company recently launched from their yards a copper-fasteued brigantine of about 300 tons burden, the property of Capt. Darnel Brown, of Ardrossan. She was named Annie Brown, and is to be employed in the New Zealand coasting trade. We observe that Captain J. W. B. Darke has been transferred from the Panama Company’s s.s. Uangitoto to that company’s ocean steamship Kaikoura, —the command of the former vessel falling to her late chief officer, Mr T. J. Traverner. The New Zealand Times, Sept. 23, understands that the commissioners Messrs Balfour, C.E., and Weaver, 0.E., appointed to examine and report upon the damages done to the outer T of the Queen’s Wharf by the Panama Company’s steamer Otago running into it on the night of the 16th ult., have completed their survey, and estimated the damages at £5,000. The Sydney Empire, Sept. 13, sayslt is probable that H.M.’s Challenger, Commodore Rowley Lambert, C. 8., will leave this about the 25th for Auckland, and after a short sojourn there will return to this port to await the arrival of H.R.11. the Duke of Edinburgh, who is expected here in the early part of November. H.M.’s Galatea, Captain H.B.U. the Duke of Edinburgh, arrived at Madeira on the 18th Juue —all well.
