Empire Minstrels. — The company of Empire Minstrels which arrived in .Napier a fi-w days ago, gave their first entertainment on Saturday night la?t, in the Masonic Hall. The attendance was not bad, though doubtless a better house might have beenexpected. Astothc performances wo may say that they seemed togive general satisfaction. An entire change of programme is announced for this and tomorrow evenings.

Tub "Chignon” Paeasitns.—But now for the chignons. Try as I will to stare oft' the unsavory subject, I cannot help myself. A horrid impertinent man, meddling with tilings that don’t concern him, has been prying about with h.s microscope, j and has discovered that about throe-fourths of the chignons that are bought contain the jeegs of a minute creature which he calls gregarina, which is ordinarily developed —U, horror!—in the interior of what he calls, for delicacy-sake, the pedicn/as humani cupilis. but which may also be developed by the warmth of the head, especially when assisted by the the extra heat of the ball-room ; and that they are extremely prolific, like all of the lowest fo*ms : and very dillicult to get rid of, except by the use of very strong chemicals, which injure I'he hair. Of course the ladies are very (indignant, and of course the hairdressers [arc more so ; and declare that after the processes to which they subject the hair, it is impossible that there should be the least rental..* of iife about it. But there a;e others again who support “investigator,” and fully bear him out; and the Daily Telegraph and its correspondents have produced such a very unpleasant sensation in many heads, tiiat the chigno>is are fast going behind the fire, ana the hairdressers are going distracted.—London correspondent of the iS'elson Examiner,

Next Meeting of General Assembly.—'The Otr.go Times states rather authoritatively that the next session of the General Assembly wi 1 be held on the 25Hh •Tune. The New Zealand Advertiser does not know where the Time? gets its information from, and says they believe they are quite correct in statin? that, no 'a’-raucenu-nt at oil fina* has been mumwith regard to the next meeting.
