WAIPUKURAU.

CORONER’S INQUEST. We understand that an inquest has been held at Waipukurau on the body of a man, name unknown, found drowned. We have not received any official account of the inquiry, but have been supplied by a correspondent with the following particulars Tbe body was discovered lying in the Tnkituki on Friday, the Bth inst., by a person named Robertson, who gave the necessary information to the police. The body, when discovered was lying in tn.e river, face nownwaros. willi a swag— rather a heavy one—round the neck. The deceased had been seen alive at Waipukurau some few days, about a fortnight, before, and was making concerning the ford, which information was given him. The river it seems was slightly swollen from the late rains, hut there was not such a heavyfresh in it as to make it dangerous to ford at the usual place. It would appear that in the act of fording the river the deceased must have stumbled and fallen forward, when his heavy swag, swaying round, would drag his head underneath, and in effect anchor him down. A verdict in accordance with the above facts was returned. The deceased was aa entire stranger to the neighborhood, and ire fear cannot be identified, though from the preservation of his swag it is just possible. We think a description of the man, as far as can be given, and an inventory of the property found on his perjson, should be made public, as necessary steps to--1 wards this end.
