M'Kenzie, for Auckland via Mercury Bay, with $ ton flour.— Master, agent. The favorite regular trading schooner Saucy Lass. Captain D. H. M'Kenzie, arrived hereon Monday last with a cargo of sawn timber, shingles, &c., irom Mercury Bay. She left Auckland on the 27th December, and arrived at Mercury Bav the following day. Took in a cargo of timber, and left for Napier on the 3rd inst., at 7 p.m Had westerly winds to the Bay of Plenty ; from thence to the East Cape head winds ; from E;ist Cape to port, strong northerly winds. Arrived in the roadstead at noon on Monday, 7fh inst., entered the Iron Pot at 3 p.m. Captain M'Kenzie reports having sighted a schooner bound north (probablv the Celt, hence flth inat.) ;;tf Portland Island at daylight on Monday morning. The Saucy Lass has had quick despatch this trip, having discharged her large cargo of timber, and taken in the requisite quantity of ballast, in less than two days. She wjll sail for Auckland about ten o’clock this morning, and will probably call in at places on the coast on the way up. The Colonial Governm-mt gun-boat Sturt, Caption Fairchild, left Auckland on Thursday. 3rd January, at d-past 0 a.m.. and arrived at Tauranga next day at 4 p.m. ; left at 7 p.m., and arrived at OaiiCki at 4 a.m. on the s;h ; left there the same evening at 0 o’clock, and arrived at Waiapu next morning at 7 o’clock ; shipped a quantity of aminnnit.mn taken from (he natives during the late war on the East Coast; left at noon, and arrived at Poverty Bay at S the same night; loft there on lae 7th (Monday last) at 7 p.m., and steered fur M mroa, but on arriving otT the bar found the surf 100 high (o attempt a landing; proceeded to Napier, and arrived here at 7 o’clock on the morning (a T.i si iv list, entering the Iron Pot in splendid ftylc. 7' ic Srurt steamed for Wellington at C o’clock the same evening.
The s.s. Star of the South, Captain Win. Ben* dall, arrived in port last evening: from Lyttelton. She hill Napier at 1 a.m. on Friday, wind strong from tlie westward ; anchored trader Cape Kidnappers until 8 p.m., at which hour she proceeded on Iter trip ; the wind at the time was from S.E., hut shortly afterwards veered round to the N.E. Arrived at Lyttelton at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oth inst. On Monday morning landed all the cattle in good condition ; during the day, coaled, and received cargo on hoard ; Left for Napier at 9 o’clock same night. Had light S.E, winds to Cape Fal]i-f-cr, which was passed at 5 p.m. on Tuesday ; from thence to Cape Turnag.nn had light N.E.; and from thence to port strong northerly winds. Arrived in the roadstead at u o'clock last evening, and it. being flood tide, came inside at once. Capt. Beudail reports having sighted the cutters Mania ant' Dolphin down the coast. We understand that another^ cargo of cattle awaits the Star of the iaoulii, .rad that she will leave for Lyttelton with the same nn Saturday morning iievt.
The schooner Tawera arrived in harbor yesterday from Poverty Bay.
The schooner Henry sailed for Blackhead on Wednesday (yesterday.)
