Commercial Summary.

The continued arrivals of wool from the outlying districts for shipment gives quite an animated and business aspect to the port. There are two vessels in the roadstead rapid lv filling up, and which will soon be ready for sea. Merchants’ stocks have been also well replenished by the timely arrival of the sliip Strathallan, and ,by the consignments per Napier, so long overdue, and which are only now come to hand. We regret to hear that much of the cargo of the latter vessel has suffered damage; this, however, was to he feared from the mishaps that occurred to her of her voyage, and which, we understand, cost consignees some 5 per cent, on the value of their consignments. The most; striking feature of the Hawke’s Bay trade is the decline in the value of flour, which, owing to recent and large arrivals, is now quoted at from £l7 to £lB 33 ton for nest brands, though a quantity has*been sold by auction for considerably lower rates than these! Other articles maintain their usual prices. The export of live stock continues to form a marked feature the business of the Tort, there having been 7'sbip*

meats during the month, consisting of 101 head of cattle, and 4,430 sheep, which, however, shows a slight falling off from the sliipments of some months past. The first of our direct wool-ships—tiie Ensign—is advertized to sail to-morrow. She takes a full cargo, and we wish her a safe and speedy passage home.
