AUCKLAND LONG-WOOL SHEEP.

The s.s, ‘ Lord Ashley,’ which arrived here on Saturday last, had on board one hundred long-wool sheep, from the flock of Messrs. Howard, West Tamaki, Auckland, and were intended for a Southern port; and, on Tuesday last, the s.s. * Beautiful Star ’ brought a shipment of about fifty for this Province ; and which were landed yesterday in capital order. Referring to these shipments, the * Daily Southern Cross,’ 15th inst., has the following remarks Wo call attention to these shipments, not because the fact is anything to be talked of, but because of the proof of the superiority of our flocks for breeding purposes. The Southern flockmasters have come to look to Auckland breeders to supply them with that class of pure-bred sheep best calculated to improve their own breeds. In these two instances, the Messrs Howard are the shippers, and no doubt the sheep will bear out the high character of their flock. Of their wool we spoke the other day, so need not now refer to that point. The exported sheep were in excellent condition. We may add, that other sheep breeders in the in the district are about to send selections from tbeir pure-bred flocks to the South j but we will notice the particulars at the proper time. Meanwhile, we congratulate the breeders of sheep in Auckland on the high reputation their flocks have obtained, and continue to maintain in the colony.
