THE MILITARY SETTLERS.
The men composing the above corps, together with their families, were brought totown on Saturday morning from Poverty Bay, the intention of the Government beino 1 to place them upon their land, which it°ha» been decided shall be in the Petane district. The men, many of whom had set their hearts on the spots selected at Turanganui, (where they had built whares and commenced cultivations in the hope of a permanent location there) seem to much regret the change entailed upon them by their removal; but the Petane valley is beyond a doubt a capital location for them—the soil good and the immediate vicinity of the port and Napier market a great advantage. From the appearance of the families of these men as we saw them on landing from the Sturt, wo judge that they will constitute a respectable community, and prove an acquisition to the province and neighborhood of the town. Wo hear that they will continue on pay till the end of the year.
