THE EAST COAST.
By the arrival of the schooner * Donald M‘Lean/ from Poverty Bay, on Thursday last; and the p.s. Sturt, from Tauranga, Opotiki, and other places on the East Coast, on Saturday last, we have some later news from those districts. A fatal boat accident, particulars of which will be found elsewhere, occurred at Tuxanganui on the 21st ult. A hew’ literary light made its debut at Tauranga on the 24th ult.,—the ‘ Tauranga Argus and Opotiki Reporter.’ We cannot say much for its appearance, but knowing by experience the many difficulties that lie in the way of a new journalist, we pass them over in the hope that future numbers of our many-eyed contemporary will be an im* provement on No. 1. Its show of advertisements (so essential to the well-being of any newspaper) are, we observ;, very limited, but doubtless they will soon increase. In conclusion, we heartily wish the * Tauranga Argus * every success.
The native news from the Coast is very meagre, but so far satisfactory.
