We are in receipt of Wellington and Auckland papers to the 19th inst., but we are compelled to hold over extracts till our next. We observe that the journals of both provinces unite in praise of the gallant conduct of the Hawke’s Bay settlers during the short but brilliant campaign in this province, which, as will he seen by the letter of our Petane correspondent, has just terminated. Waieoa.— A Mew Channel Pound. —By the arrival of the cutter Dolphin on Saturday night we have some later intelligence from Wairoa. Captain Schon reports the bar as being iu capital order—never better. Ho also reports having found a channel, hitherto unknown, in which, at low tide, there is six feet of water in the shallowest part. Captain Schon also expresses his willingness to take the p.s. Huntress out of the river should the Government permit him to do so. We certainly think the Government should not lose so good an opportunity.—Trade at the Wairoa is still dull.—The natives are all quiet. White Men amongst the Rebels,— During the progress of hostilities, both on the East and West Coast, it has been observed that Europeans are occasionally seen in the rants of the cisemy. One of these, Newberry by name, has at length come to grief—having been found at Titiokura, and taken into custody by Lisut.-Colonel Whitmore. He was brought into town on Wednesday last, and lodged in the gaol at Napier. There does not appear to bo any question of his guilt. On the other hand, he appears, as we hear, to have gloried in it. We have no question but the crime of which ho has been guilty is one of the worst possible, and meriting more than others the capital sentence. We trust that his fate will bo a warning to others, if such there yet be, and induce them to quit their treasonable and diabolical courses. We understand that this man has given information respecting another traitor, and a warrant has been issued for his apprehension.
