LOCAL MATTERS.
Of local matters our budget is exceedingly small. During the session of the General Assembly attention is diverted from these
affairs to those of more general interest. But as days roll on, a few things at least call for special notice. Our local Parliament is summoned together for business at an early date (25th instant), and we have one election to come off before that time (on the 19 th) being for the seat left vacant on the'Vesigaation of John Buchanan, Esq,, which took place some three months ago. We have not as yet heard the names of any candidate for the vacant seat, but presume that it will he filled, probably without opposition, by H. C. BobJohns, Esq.
The detachment of H,M.’sl4th Regiment, for some time stationed at Napier, have taken their departure from us for Auckland, en route for Australia. Gore Browne Barracks, at Napier, is in consequence left with the miserably small force of nineteen men and a sergeant.
In another place we give more detailed notices of the local events of the month, comprising its accidents, &c., to which we must refer our readers.
