Tho P..N.Z,, and A.R.M. Co.’s s.s. Lord Ashlev, Capt. Hegley, arrived here at 1 p.m. yesterday, bne left Nelson at 2-45 p.m on the 20th August • arrived at Hokitika at 10’45 p.m. on the 22nd • returned the same day at 5-45 p.m. to Greymouth’, which she reached at 7'45 p.m. ; steamed next morning at 9 - 20 for Hokitika, and arrived off Eiere at 11-30 a.m.; started again at 530 p.m. Next day fell in with an open boat off Okarita Bound; and took on hoard a digger named Elliott who was suffering severely from jaundice. Arrived at the Bluff on the 25th, at 11 a.m; left Bamo day at 4 p.m, and arrived at Port Chalmers at 4 a.m. on the 26th; left for Lyttelton at 6‘30 pm. on the 26th, and arrived there'at S p.m. on the 28th ; left for Wellington at 3 p.m. on the 29th, and arrived thereat 3 p.m. on the SOth ; left Wellington on the Ist September at 4i5 p m.; and brought up in the roadstead as above. The Lord Ashley brings a large general cargo, and several passengers. ARRIVAL OP THE STAR OP THE SOUTH. The s.s. Star of tho South, Captain Eendall, left Napier at 8 a.m. on Snndav, 26th August, with 100 head of cattle and .240 sheep for Auckland. Had fine weather for tho first, and strong head winds for the latter part of the passage; and arrived at the Tamaki at 2 p.m. on tho 28th nit. Landed her cattle and sheep in good condition and without any loss, and proceeded up Auckland harbor, where she dropped anchor at an early hour on the morning of tho 2Sih. After having coaled, and taken in a large general cargo, including eight draught horses, left again for Napier at midnight on the SOth, with light N.E, winds sad fine weather. Rounded the East Cape at 8 a.in. on the Ist September; from thence to Portland Jslaiid, had light northerly breeze. Passed the Island as 11 p.m. on the ‘let, laid a head wind from thence to port, and arrived here at 6 a.m. on the 2nd (yesterday). She entered tho Iron Pot yesterday morning at dead low water, and Without the assistance of the pilot; Assistant-pilot ilraeft, hotvevGr, was on tho beach, and superintended the operations. She. landed her horses at good condition, and then proceeded alongside the wharf, where sho will commence discharging cargo this day. MISCELLANEOUS. The schooner William and Julia sailed for Auckland yesterday with 20 head of cattle. •The ketch Hero sailed for Mohaka and Waikari on Thursday night last, with largo general cargo. The cutter Dolphin sailed for Wairoa and Mahia on Thursday night last, with full cargo of Stores. During the Lord Ashley’s passage from Kelson to the Grey, Oaptam Ponsonby observed a heavy break bearing from Reek’s Point K. fay W. (mao-.) about seven miles; the sea appeared to break In about 14 feet. The captain states that the reef is of the same description as tho Ariel’s rocks on this coast. The weather was very hazy, and a a high sea running, so he was unable to get correct cross bearings. The cutter Mahia sailed for Waikari last evening with a full cargo and one passenger. The ship Kapier Rad not arrived at Wellington up to Saturday last, being than 148 days out. The 8.9, Beautiful Star arrived at Wellington on the 26th ult.
