Southern District of Hawke’s Bay Pastoral and Agricultural Society.— A general meeting of the above society will be held at the Tavistock Hotel, Waipukurau, at noon on Wednesday next, 4th July, for the purpose of electing a working committee and making arrangements for the show proposed to be held next November. The attendance of all interested in the society is respectfully requested.

The Genebal Assembly. —Messrs. D. M'Lean and J. D. Ormond, the two gentlemen who represent this province in the House of Representatives, and Colonel Whitmore, M.L.C., took their departure in the steamer 4 Wellington ’ for the capital on Friday last, to he present at the opening of the General Assembly, which event was to have taken place on Saturday last. His Honor the Superintendent of Auckland, and several other members of the General Assembly were also passengers by the * Wellington.’

Ahoeiri Plains. —-T he leasing of sections in the Papakura and Hikutoto Blocks, Ahuriri Plains, took place in the Council Chamber on Thursday last—Mr Janisch being the auctioneer. The bidding was very spirited throughout the day—all the sections being disposed of. The total area in both blocks offered for lease amounted to 3,835 acres, 3 roods, 27 perches, which was put up at an annual rental of £1,175 7s 6d. The amount actually realised was £3,617 ss, or £2,341 x / s on iu aovauce of the upset price. Ihe Wairoa Mail had not arrived up to a late hour last evening.
