OUR EIGHTH VOLUME.

With the issue of the present number of the “ Hawke’s Bay Times” we commence the eighth volume, and it is with feelings of considerable satisfaction that we are able to review our past labors. That we have fulfilled all that our friends have expected of us, or even all that we contemplated in the first instance, we do not assume, but that we have done our best to carry out these objects, and iiave been to a great extent successful, our present position is sufficient to show.

It would be vaiu to aver that we have in every ease taken the most correct view of public questions, committed no errors, and been free from faults, for this would be to lay claim to a perfection to which we are far from pretending; but w r e may say with confidence that whatever view we have taken or course pursued, it has always been that which has commended itself to us as the Tight at the time, and we think we may add that after events have generally borne us out. We have not knowingly left any abuse unexposed, or any interest of the community lAadvocated, so far as has been in our power, and we have reason to know that our journal has become to a very large section of the community “ a welcome guest.” To our friends, whose patronage have enabled us to maintain our position, we take this opportunity of expressing our acknowledgments, and assure them that no effort on our part shall be wanting to ensure a continuance of their confidence.
