WANGANUI.
Piperiki. —The Native Contingent and the Kupapas are preparing to feast Pehi and his followers who are about to come down and return the visit paid to them a fortnight ago. Sir George Grey, Te Ua, and Hori Kingi are expected at Pipiriki early next month, and upon their arrival the “ grand banquet” takes place. Pigs, potatoes, and kumeras are already laid in abundance. Pehi and his men promise submission, and of course. Sir George Grey will accept it. They refuse, however, to take the oath of allegiance, but that matters little one way or the other. We were in a fair way of compelling submission throughout the length and breadth of the island, but Sir George Grey’s tour renders this impossible. There will be three men at the Pipiriki meeting who might, with great advantage to the colony, emmigrate to the Chatham Islands—Te Ua, Pehi, and Sir George Grey.—Wanganui Times, 27th April.
