Commercial Summary.
‘Times’ Office, Saturday Evening, sth April. The advance of the winter season has tended to improve the aspect of trade generally, and the arrivals of several vessels from the Australian Colonies has supplied the market with certain descriptions of goods that were last month in short supply. The market seems well supplied with flour, which, in consequence, appears to have a downward tendency; but for stocks in general, merchants are awaiting the arrival of the now overdue vessels from England, the ‘ Danish Beauty’ and * Shelburne,’ when we trust to see an appreciable advance in business transactions. "We are especially gratified to observe the extension of the trade between ISTapier and Sydney, which has been more than usually brisk during the past month. This must be of great benefit to the Province, and we trust the enterprising parties concerned will find it of equal advantage to themselves, as indeed they deserve for their well-directed eiforts iu this direction. The exports of the month, consisting of sheep cattle, wool, sheepskins. &0., has been of an unusually animated nature, especially in the matter of sheep, of which there have been upwards of 5000 sent away. Of cattle, too, there have been creditable shipments. The Customs Receipts at the Port of Kapier for the month ending 30th April amounted to £1897 Is Id, —the three-eighths accruing to the Province being £7ll 7s lid. This shows an advance of £3oD 18s lOd on the total receipt last month, and an increase of £133 lls 6£d on the sum accruing to the Province.
